Internship as Software Engineer at QAware

In the weeks leading up to my studies starting in October, I used the time to dive deep into practice - at QAware, a company that implements innovative software projects in a wide variety of contexts. My internship was deliberately chosen to be interdisciplinary, allowing me to experience different facets of modern software development.

In the enterprise context, I was allowed to implement adjustments in a compliance portal in the full-stack area to meet the requirements of new regulatory guidelines in the field of artificial intelligence. In doing so, I was not only able to work with modern web technologies, but also experience how complex security and compliance requirements are integrated into existing architectures.

In parallel, I was able to work on a startup project: In the web app of 2NA-Fish, it was about implementing dynamic calculations of optical parameters based on metadata. The company has set itself the goal of significantly accelerating the diagnosis of cancer mutations. With my changes, the team hopes to improve the detection accuracy of biomarkers once again.

Another highlight was working on an internal R&D proof-of-concept: Graphs are often used for legacy systems to visualize software dependencies. The project involved VR representation of such structures in a three-dimensional environment. Finally, I was able to evaluate the concept using VisionOS on an Apple Vision Pro.

What was particularly fascinating for me was comparing the different working methods: from the rapid iterations in the startup environment to the structured, highly planned approach in enterprise applications. Nevertheless, the projects are managed in an agile manner thanks to daily coordination in scrum meetings.

My personal conclusion: In addition to many technical skills, I take with me above all the value of an open, collaborative team culture. At QAware, I was involved in the tasks from day one, taken seriously and inspired. A big thank you to the entire team for this valuable experience!
